Visiting Lanzarote in July
# Lanzarote in July: What It’s Actually Like
Let’s be straight with you: July in Lanzarote is hot. Properly, relentlessly hot. We’re talking 28-32°C most days, with the sun hammering down on an island that’s essentially a volcanic rock with very little shade to offer. The trade winds off the Atlantic do take the edge off, which is genuinely useful and stops it feeling as suffocating as somewhere like mainland Spain at the same temperature. But don’t kid yourself that it’s pleasantly warm. It’s hot.
Rainfall is minimal to nonexistent. You’re almost certainly not going to see a drop of rain the entire trip, which sounds ideal until you’re wandering around Timanfaya volcanic park at midday wishing someone had warned you to go early morning instead.
**Crowds and the vibe**
July is peak season, full stop. The island is busy. Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise – all the main resort areas are operating at full capacity. Families are out in force because school holidays are underway across Europe. If you’re hoping for a quiet, authentic experience, you’ll need to work harder to find it, though the interior villages remain noticeably calmer than the coast.
**What’s open**
Everything. This is the advantage of going in peak season – every restaurant, attraction, water park, excursion boat and beach bar is fully operational. The Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes, César Manrique Foundation – all running normal hours.
**Is it worth it?**
For families who need school holiday dates, absolutely yes. For beach lovers who want guaranteed sunshine and warm sea, yes. For people sensitive to heat or crowds, honestly consider May, June or September instead – similar sunshine, significantly fewer people, marginally cooler temperatures.
**One practical tip**
Book Timanfaya National Park in advance online. It sells out. Showing up at the gate expecting to walk in during July is a genuine mistake people make and regret loudly in the car park. Sort it before you travel and save yourself the frustration.
