# Budva in June: The Sweet Spot Before the Madness

If you’re thinking about Montenegro’s most famous coastal town, June is honestly one of the better times to go – but it depends entirely on what kind of traveller you are.

The weather sits around 26 or 27 degrees, which feels genuinely pleasant rather than punishing. You can walk the Old Town’s marble streets in the afternoon without feeling like you’re being slow-cooked. There’s about 82mm of rain across the month, so expect a handful of proper afternoon thunderstorms – they roll in dramatically off the mountains, drench everything for an hour, then disappear. Pack a light waterproof and don’t let it put you off.

The crowds are the real story in June. Early in the month, it’s surprisingly manageable. The beach clubs are open, restaurants are fully staffed and actually happy to see you, and you can get a sunbed without a minor territorial dispute. By late June, the Serbian and Russian summer exodus has begun in earnest, and Budva starts showing its true chaotic colours. Arrive in the first two weeks and you’ll have a noticeably easier time than if you push it to the 25th onward.

Everything worth seeing is open – the Citadel, the Old Town bars, boat trips to Sveti Stefan, the beaches at Mogren. Prices are lower than July and August, which matters because Budva in peak season becomes eye-wateringly expensive for what it actually is.

Is it worth visiting? For couples, solo travellers and anyone who wants the Adriatic atmosphere without peak-season aggression, yes, genuinely. Families with school-age kids probably can’t choose June anyway, but if you can, it beats August comprehensively. Party tourists wanting maximum chaos should wait; everyone else should come now.

**One practical tip:** book accommodation in the Old Town itself rather than the resort strip. The strip is soulless concrete in any month. The Old Town is small, occasionally smells of drains, and is completely charming – that’s the version of Budva actually worth your time.
