Visiting Akko in June

# Akko in June: What It’s Actually Like

Let’s be honest about June in Akko: it’s hot, it’s humid, and the sea breeze that makes this city so special is doing most of the heavy lifting keeping things bearable. Temperatures sit comfortably in the high 20s to low 30s Celsius, and because Akko sits right on the Mediterranean coast, that heat comes with a sticky quality that you either tolerate or you don’t. Rainfall is essentially zero in June — the dry season is firmly established by now — so you won’t be caught out by weather, but you will be caught out by the sun hammering down on those pale limestone streets by midday.

The Old City is genuinely spectacular and June is a reasonable time to see it, but go in with realistic expectations about crowds. Israeli school summer holidays begin around late June, and European tourism is picking up steadily throughout the month. The Crusader Halls, the Turkish bathhouse, the rampart walks — all open, all functioning, and all significantly busier than they’d be in, say, November. That said, it’s not overwhelming in the way July and August can feel. Early June especially sits in a sweet spot where you get full access without the peak chaos.

The food scene is consistently excellent regardless of month. The restaurants and hummus spots in the old market operate normally, the harbour is lively, and sitting somewhere with fresh fish and a cold Goldstar watching the fortifications catch the afternoon light is genuinely one of the better experiences available in this part of the world.

Is it worth visiting in June? Yes, for almost everyone. The heat is manageable if you’re sensible, everything is accessible, and the city rewards slow wandering in a way few places do. It’s not ideal for anyone who genuinely suffers in humidity, though.

**Practical tip:** Start your morning by 8am. The old city before the tour groups arrive feels almost meditative. By 11am, find somewhere shaded to eat. Resume exploring after 4pm when the light is better anyway.
