Let’s be honest with you upfront: July in Capri is peak everything. Peak heat, peak crowds, peak prices, peak beauty. You need to know which of those things matters most to you before you book.

The weather is genuinely lovely. Average temperatures sit around 28°C, the sea is warm enough to swim in comfortably, and you’ll get almost no rain — maybe 5mm across the entire month, which is basically nothing. Skies are reliably blue. Sunsets over the Faraglioni rocks are the real deal. Meteorologically, it’s hard to argue with.

What you cannot ignore is the crowds. Capri in July is genuinely hectic, particularly between about 10am and 5pm when the day-trippers arrive by ferry from Naples and the Amalfi Coast. The island swells dramatically during daylight hours. The piazzetta — that famous little square everyone photographs — becomes almost comically packed. Queues for the Blue Grotto can eat two hours of your morning. The narrow lanes fill up fast.

Everything is open, which is a genuine upside. Restaurants, boat rental companies, beach clubs, shops — all running at full capacity. You won’t find anything shuttered. The boats circumnavigating the island run frequently, and getting around by water is genuinely one of the best things you can do here regardless of month.

So is it worth visiting in July? Yes, if you’re staying overnight. The day-tripper crowds largely disappear by early evening and the island transforms. Cooler, quieter, magical in a way the afternoon simply isn’t. If you’re planning a day trip from Sorrento, honestly consider going somewhere slightly less saturated instead.

It’s ideal for couples celebrating something, people who enjoy a glamorous Mediterranean atmosphere, and anyone who wants guaranteed sunshine and swimming weather.

**One practical tip:** Book the Blue Grotto for first thing in the morning online before you arrive. The afternoon queues are brutal and entirely avoidable with about ten minutes of planning at home.
