# Himarë in July: What You’re Actually Getting Into
July in Himarë is peak everything. Peak heat, peak crowds, peak prices, peak beauty. The temperature sits around 28-29°C most days, the sea is that almost embarrassingly blue colour that makes your photos look fake, and rainfall is essentially a non-event – five millimetres across the whole month means you might get one brief afternoon drama and then sunshine again within the hour. The Ionian coast is genuinely doing its best work right now.
Here’s what nobody puts in the brochure though: the village itself, particularly the stretch around Spile beach and the main road, becomes absolutely rammed with Albanian tourists from Tirana, Italian and Greek visitors, and a growing wave of backpackers who’ve heard this is “the cheap Greek islands alternative.” It is not quiet. The beachfront bars are pumping music by 11am, parking is a genuine adventure, and finding a sunlounger without pre-planning your morning is optimistic thinking.
Everything is open, which is worth saying clearly because Himarë outside summer can feel half-asleep. Restaurants, boat trip operators, the little shops selling olive oil and raki, water sports rentals along Livadhi beach – July is when this town is fully switched on and functioning as intended.
Is it worth it? Honestly, it depends entirely on who you are. If you want swimming, socialising, cold beer on a beach, and don’t mind paying slightly inflated Albanian prices (still reasonable by Western European standards), July is genuinely wonderful here. The water temperature is perfect, evenings are warm enough to sit outside until midnight, and the surrounding villages like Palasë and Qeparo are accessible for day trips away from the noise.
If you’re seeking tranquillity, authentic slow-pace Albania, or budget rock-bottom accommodation, you’ve picked the wrong month. Come in May or September instead.
**One practical tip:** Book accommodation well in advance and specifically request something away from the main road. The nighttime noise along the seafront is legitimately relentless, and tired-you will absolutely resent happy-holiday-planning-you for ignoring this.
