# Cascais in June: The Sweet Spot Before Summer Gets Stupid
June is genuinely one of the better times to visit Cascais, and I say that as someone who’s also been there in August and spent half a day hunting for a restaurant table that wasn’t already occupied by someone’s sweaty family of seven.
**What it’s actually like**
Twenty-seven degrees is the kind of warm that feels like a reward rather than a punishment. You can sit on the beach without feeling like you’re being slow-cooked. The Atlantic keeps things honest – there’s usually a breeze coming off the water, especially in the afternoons, and the ocean temperature is still pretty fresh (think 18-19°C), which either puts you off swimming or, if you’re from northern Europe, feels like absolute luxury. The 10mm of rain across the month is basically nothing – you might get one grey afternoon, maybe two. Plan around it and you’ll barely notice.
**The crowd situation**
Early June is noticeably quieter than late June, which starts bleeding into full summer territory as European school holidays kick in. The town centre and the Praia da Rainha get busier on weekends when Lisbon day-trippers arrive, but weekday mornings feel almost relaxed. This isn’t shoulder season bargain territory anymore, but it’s not the wall-to-wall chaos of August either.
**What’s open and worth your time**
Everything is open. The Sintra day trip works well now – trails aren’t brutally hot, the palaces are accessible without booking weeks ahead, and you won’t be quite so desperate for water by noon. The marina restaurants are fully operational, the Citadel area is lovely, and sunset from the lighthouse path feels genuinely unhurried.
**Who should go**
Couples, solo travellers, people who want beach time without full resort-mode. Families with younger kids also do well here – it’s manageable and not overwhelming.
**One practical tip**
Book accommodation early for late June specifically. That window fills up faster than the dates suggest it should.
