Visiting Dahab in September

# Dahab in September: Still Pretty Scorching, Honestly

So September in Dahab. Let me be straight with you – it’s hot. Like, properly, sit-in-the-shade-and-question-your-decisions hot. Temperatures are regularly pushing 38-40°C, and the humidity coming off the Red Sea means it feels heavier than a dry desert heat. Rainfall is basically a non-event; you might get a brief shower the entire month if you’re unlucky enough to call it that. The sun just hammers down, day after day.

That said, the sea is absolutely glorious right now. Water temperatures are at their peak, sitting around 27-28°C, which means the diving and snorkelling are genuinely exceptional. Visibility is fantastic, the marine life is active, and if you’re the kind of person who came specifically to float around the Blue Hole or paddle above the coral gardens in the Lagoon, September actually delivers on that front beautifully.

**Crowds-wise**, August is the busiest month with Egyptian domestic tourists and European families, so by September things are noticeably calmer. The backpacker and diving crowd starts filtering back in, the camps and budget guesthouses are open and welcoming, and you won’t be fighting for a beanbag on the waterfront promenade. Most restaurants, dive centres, and accommodation are fully operational – Dahab doesn’t really shut down the way some seasonal resorts do.

**Is it worth going?** Honestly, it depends entirely on your heat tolerance. If you wilt above 32°C, September will be a slow, slightly miserable slog between air-conditioned rooms and the water. But if heat doesn’t bother you much, or you’re coming purely for the underwater stuff rather than hiking Sinai’s mountains (which is brutal in September daytime heat), you’ll have a genuinely good time at lower prices than peak winter season.

**One practical tip:** Book a room with actual air conditioning, not just a fan. Some of the more rustic camps are charming but will have you lying awake at 2am absolutely drenched. Check specifically before you book. Your sleep will thank you.
