Visiting Fuerteventura in September

# Fuerteventura in September: What It’s Actually Like

Let’s be straight with you: September in Fuerteventura is still properly, relentlessly hot. We’re talking 28-30°C most days, strong sunshine, and that constant Atlantic wind the island is famous for – which sounds annoying but honestly saves you from melting completely. Rainfall is basically a non-event. You might see a few clouds occasionally, but you’re not packing an umbrella. The ocean temperature is at its warmest of the year, hovering around 23-24°C, which means the water finally feels genuinely inviting rather than bracingly cold.

**The crowd situation is complicated.** The first week or two of September can still feel busy because European school holidays overlap in places and some families squeeze in a final trip. By mid-to-late September though, things noticeably calm down. Corralejo and Jandia – the main tourist hubs – stop feeling quite so rammed. You can actually get a sunbed without setting an alarm.

**What’s open?** Everything. This isn’t a shoulder season destination in the traditional sense – Fuerteventura runs year-round and September is still firmly peak territory for operators. Watersports, excursions, restaurants, beach bars, all fully operational.

**Is it worth visiting?** Honestly, yes – especially if you’ve been priced out of July and August or you don’t want to fight crowds at the dunes at Corralejo. The heat is identical to peak summer but with slightly more breathing room. Windsurfers and kitesurfers specifically love September because the trade winds remain strong and consistent – Sotavento beach in the south is particularly worth seeking out if that’s your thing.

It’s less ideal if you burn easily and struggle in intense heat, or if you want a lively, buzzing resort atmosphere – things do quiet down towards October and that shift starts late September.

**One practical tip:** Book your car hire well in advance. Fuerteventura without a car limits you enormously, and rental prices spike if you leave it late. Sort that before you sort your hotel.
