Let’s be real with you. Himarë in February is a completely different animal from the sun-drenched Albanian Riviera you’ve seen in Instagram reels. The beach bars are shuttered, the parasols are stacked away somewhere, and the main strip has that slightly melancholy off-season energy where you can hear your own footsteps.

The weather sits around 10 degrees, which isn’t brutal but it’s not comfortable either. You’ll get roughly 50mm of rain across the month, meaning several proper wet days mixed with crisp, genuinely beautiful ones. The mountains behind town occasionally get a dusting of snow while the sea stays grey-green and dramatic. Honestly? On the clear days it looks stunning in a completely different way than summer. Empty pebble beaches with serious Ionian light hitting limestone cliffs, nobody around. That part is actually lovely.

The crowds are essentially nonexistent. This is the honest truth about both the upside and the downside. You’ll have the castle ruins and the old village completely to yourself, which feels genuinely special. But maybe a third of restaurants are closed, a handful of guesthouses stay open, and you’ll find yourself eating at whichever two places are actually running that week. The locals are noticeably more relaxed and willing to actually talk to you.

Is it worth visiting? For certain people, absolutely yes. If you’re a hiker, the trails into the hills are superb without summer heat, and the Llogara Pass area is dramatic in winter conditions. If you’re writing, reading, genuinely trying to decompress without distraction, February Himarë delivers hard. If you’re hoping for beach holiday vibes or any kind of nightlife, you will be miserable. Wrong month, wrong energy.

**One practical tip:** Don’t assume the guesthouse you found online is actually open. Email or WhatsApp directly before booking anything, and do it a week out at minimum. Several places only officially reopen in March and their online availability doesn’t always reflect reality. Confirm everything twice. February in Himarë rewards the prepared and the flexible.
