Visiting Javea in March

# Javea in March: What It’s Actually Like

Look, March in Javea is a bit of a gamble, and anyone telling you otherwise is trying to sell you something.

The weather is genuinely unpredictable. You might land on a week of crisp, gloriously sunny days where you’re eating lunch outside in a light jacket feeling smug about escaping northern Europe. You might equally get four days of grey skies and persistent rain that rolls in off the sea and just *sits* there. Temperatures typically hover somewhere between 12 and 18 degrees, so comfortable enough for walking and exploring, but nobody’s swimming unless they’re either very brave or very drunk.

The upside of this uncertainty is that Javea in March is genuinely quiet. The old town, the port area, the market at Arenal – you can actually move through them like a normal human being rather than shuffling along behind a crocodile of strangers. Restaurants are open but not rammed, you can get a table without planning your entire day around a reservation, and locals are still actually *in* the town rather than retreating from it.

Most things are open, though hours can be reduced and some smaller beach bars haven’t bothered firing up yet. The Thursday market runs, the walking trails up into the Montgó natural park are in excellent condition, and the old town with its whitewashed streets is genuinely lovely when you’re not competing for pavement space.

Is it worth going? It depends entirely on who you are. If you need guaranteed beach weather and a buzzing social scene, honest answer: wait until May. But if you like hiking, eating well, pottering around without crowds, and you find the idea of moody coastal light on a limestone headland rather beautiful, March genuinely delivers something the summer months absolutely cannot.

**Practical tip:** Pack actual layers rather than just a light jumper. The evenings drop faster than you expect, especially if you’re sitting near the water, and you’ll want the flexibility when the weather changes its mind mid-afternoon, which it will.
