Visiting Javea in April

# Javea in April: What to Actually Expect

April in Javea is genuinely one of those months where you could get lucky or feel slightly robbed, and there’s no point pretending otherwise. The weather sits in that frustrating in-between zone — daytime temperatures typically land somewhere between 16 and 21 degrees, which sounds pleasant enough until a cloud rolls in off the sea and suddenly you’re cold in your linen shirt feeling foolish. Rain is a real possibility. April can be surprisingly wet on the Costa Blanca, with short sharp showers appearing from nowhere. You won’t get weeks of solid grey sky, but you might lose a afternoon or two.

That said, the town itself is genuinely lovely in April in ways it simply isn’t in summer. The famous Arenal beach still has breathing room. You can actually walk the port area without being shoulder-to-shoulder with people, find a table at a decent restaurant without a reservation made three days prior, and park your car without a minor breakdown. The expat and Spanish local crowd is present and doing its thing, which gives the place an authentic rhythm that evaporates completely by July.

Most things are open but operating on shoulder-season hours, so check before you turn up. Some smaller beach bars and rental outfits are only just dusting themselves off after winter. The Wednesday and Saturday markets are running and worth your time.

Easter week can completely flip the script — if your dates overlap with Semana Santa, expect a significant Spanish domestic crowd descending, prices jumping, and genuine atmosphere if you’re into that sort of thing.

**Worth it for whom?** Absolutely yes if you’re a walker, cyclist, or someone who wants the scenery without the circus. The coastal path is spectacular and you’ll have it relatively to yourself. Less ideal if your entire trip hinges on beach days and pool weather — that’s a gamble you might lose.

**One practical tip:** bring a proper layer for evenings. Every single person visiting in April underestimates how cool it drops after sunset.
