The weather in May is genuinely lovely most of the time. You’re looking at warm days, typically somewhere in the mid-twenties Celsius, occasionally nudging higher toward the end of the month. It’s not the savage heat of July and August that makes you want to lie very still in a darkened room, but it’s warm enough that the harbour looks exactly like you’re hoping it will. Rain is possible, especially earlier in the month, but we’re talking the occasional shower rather than anything that ruins a trip. Pack a light layer for evenings because it cools down more than you’d expect.

Crowds are manageable. European school holidays haven’t kicked in yet, so you’re not competing with the full summer rush. Kyrenia doesn’t really have that problem in May. The castle, the shipwreck museum, the mountain villages nearby – all functioning, all accessible.

Who is this trip for in May? Couples, solo travellers, anyone who prefers atmosphere over party energy. Families with younger kids would do well here. It’s not a clubbing month and Kyrenia isn’t really that destination anyway.

One practical tip worth remembering: Kyrenia is in Northern Cyprus, which means it operates under specific travel and entry considerations depending on your nationality and where you’re flying from. Sort out the logistics before you go rather than assuming it works exactly like any other Mediterranean trip. A quick check saves a lot of confusion at the airport.
