Visiting Lanzarote in February
# Lanzarote in February: What It’s Actually Like
Look, February in Lanzarote is genuinely one of those months where you need to manage your expectations carefully, but not necessarily downward.
The weather is mild rather than hot. You’re looking at temperatures hovering around 18-20°C during the day, which feels pleasant if you’re escaping a British winter but might disappoint anyone expecting proper beach weather. The thing is, Lanzarote sits close enough to the African coast that it rarely gets truly cold, but February brings a real wildcard element. You can get gorgeous sunny days where you’ll eat lunch outside in a t-shirt, and you can get grey, windy stretches that feel more like Cornwall than the Canaries. The wind particularly — Lanzarote is a volcanic, relatively flat island and the Atlantic trades can absolutely batter it some weeks. Rainfall is generally low, but when it does rain, it sometimes comes in proper bursts rather than drizzle. Don’t assume dry means warm and calm.
Crowds are noticeably thinner than the summer peak and the Christmas period, though not as quiet as November. You’ll find restaurants actually have tables. Pools might be heated but you won’t be fighting for a sunlounger. The roads around Timanfaya and the popular viewpoints are manageable. It genuinely feels like the island has space to breathe.
Most things stay open year-round here — the volcanic national park, the César Manrique attractions, the markets. This isn’t somewhere that hibernates. You won’t find anything shuttered because it’s off-season.
**Is it worth going?** For couples, older travellers, walkers, or anyone wanting to explore properly rather than just bake — yes, absolutely. For families pinning everything on beach days and pool time, it’s more of a gamble.
**One practical tip:** Pack a proper windproof layer. Not just a light cardigan. Something that actually blocks wind. You’ll feel slightly overdressed on good days and extremely smug on the others, and the others will happen.
