# Olbia in June: What to Actually Expect

Olbia is essentially a gateway town, and that’s worth understanding before you go. Most people land here, rent a car, and immediately drive north toward the Costa Smeralda or Porto Cervo. June is when that exodus really starts picking up pace, so the town itself sits in an interesting middle ground – busy but not completely overwhelmed.

The weather in June is genuinely lovely without being punishing. You’re looking at warm, mostly sunny days that feel like proper summer without the brutal, airless heat that August brings. There’s occasional rainfall, particularly in the first half of the month, but nothing that should seriously derail plans. The sea is swimming temperature by mid-June, though it can still feel fresh early on depending on the year.

Crowds are building but manageable. The truly ferocious tourist surge arrives in July and August, so June gives you something relatively rare in this part of Sardinia – attractions and restaurants that are fully open and staffed without three-hour queues attached to them. The archaeological museum, which genuinely deserves more attention than it gets, is accessible. Restaurants are operating full menus. You can actually get a table.

The town itself rewards a half-day of honest exploration. The old centre around the Corso Umberto has a working, local character that doesn’t vanish for tourists the way some Italian towns do. It’s not spectacular, but it’s real.

Is it worth visiting? If your goal is the beaches and scenery further along the coast, Olbia is a practical base with good infrastructure and lower prices than the resort towns. For that purpose, June is probably the sweet spot of the year – everything functioning, prices not yet fully inflated, and the tourist machine not yet running at full, exhausting capacity.

**Practical tip:** Book your car rental before you arrive. Seriously. Sardinia’s rental availability evaporates fast in summer, and by late June you’ll be looking at slim pickings and painful prices if you’ve left it last minute.
