Visiting Olympos in September

# Olympos in September: Still Summer, But Breathing Again

September is genuinely one of the better times to visit Olympos, and I say that as someone who thinks July there is borderline punishing.

The heat is still serious — you’re looking at high 20s to low 30s Celsius most days, sometimes nudging higher in the first two weeks. It’s the Mediterranean Turkish coast; it doesn’t suddenly become mild just because the calendar turns. But compared to the suffocating humidity of August, there’s usually a slight easing, especially later in the month. Evenings become genuinely pleasant rather than just less awful.

Rainfall is pretty minimal throughout September, though the occasional storm can roll in toward the end of the month without much warning. It’s not something to plan around, but it’s worth knowing the weather isn’t completely guaranteed the way it is in June or July.

The crowd situation improves noticeably, which is the real reason to come now. August in Olympos is dominated by young Turkish backpackers filling the famous treehouse camps, which creates a specific atmosphere — fun if that’s your thing, exhausting if it isn’t. By mid-September that scene has largely cleared out. You’ll still find people, but the canyon walk down to the beach feels like yours again in a way it simply doesn’t in peak summer.

The beach itself remains excellent. The ruins scattered through the canyon are accessible, atmospheric, and mercifully less trampled. The Chimaera flames are still worth the evening hike. Most of the treehouse accommodation and local restaurants stay open through September, though a few places start winding down operations toward the final week.

Is it worth it? For independent travelers, hikers, history people, or anyone who wanted Olympos but dreaded the chaos — September is your month. If you came specifically for the social treehouse party experience, you might find it slightly quieter than expected.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation in advance for the first two weeks of September. It’s quieter than August but not empty, and the better guesthouses still fill up.
