Visiting Paphos in October

# Paphos in October: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About Enough

October is genuinely one of the better times to visit Paphos, and I say that as someone who’s also been there in August and spent most of it hiding from the sun like a vampire.

The weather is warm but no longer punishing. Early October still feels very summery – you’re looking at highs around 28-30°C – and it cools noticeably as the month progresses, finishing closer to 23-25°C by Halloween. It’s comfortable rather than oppressive. You can actually walk around the archaeological sites without feeling like you’re being slowly cooked. Rainfall is possible, particularly later in the month, but we’re talking brief showers rather than anything that derails a whole day. Pack a light layer for evenings regardless.

The crowds thin out considerably compared to July and August, and that matters in Paphos specifically. The harbour area and the mosaics can feel genuinely suffocating in peak summer. In October you can actually linger, take photos without strangers walking through them, and get a table at a decent restaurant without booking three days ahead.

Everything is still open. That’s the practical reality that sometimes gets glossed over – Paphos doesn’t really shut down until well into November. The boat trips, the Tombs of the Kings, Aphrodite Hills, the water park if you have kids in tow. All running.

The sea is still warm enough to swim comfortably, hovering around 26°C at the start of the month and cooling only slightly by the end. This is the detail that seals it for a lot of people.

**Who should go in October?** Couples wanting a relaxed break, history enthusiasts who’d rather not sweat through an ancient ruin, anyone who burned their August budget and wants the same holiday for less money – prices drop noticeably.

**One practical tip:** Rent a car. Paphos’s best bits – the Akamas Peninsula, Aphrodite’s Rock, the Troodos foothills – are spread out, and the October light makes driving through them genuinely beautiful.
