# Paros in March: The Honest Version

March in Paros is genuinely lovely, but you need to know what you’re walking into.

The weather sits around 15 or 16 degrees, which sounds reasonable until you factor in the wind. Paros gets battered by the Aegean’s famous meltemi winds, and March delivers a precursor version that cuts straight through whatever jacket you thought was adequate. That 45mm of rainfall isn’t constant misery – it tends to arrive in short, dramatic bursts rather than grey drizzle – but you’ll definitely see some wet days. Pack accordingly and don’t plan your entire trip around beach time.

The crowds situation is genuinely excellent if you value having places to yourself. Naoussa’s pretty harbour is yours. You can wander through Parikia’s old town, duck into the Frankish castle ruins and the beautiful Ekatontapyliani church without navigating tour groups. The marble pathways and whitewashed walls photograph beautifully without strangers constantly walking into your frame.

Here’s the honest bit about what’s open though: not much. Plenty of restaurants, bars and shops are still shuttered from winter. You’ll find enough tavernas operating to eat well – locals eat somewhere, after all – but don’t expect the full summer selection. Some will be doing limited hours. A fair number of boat trips and excursions to Antiparos won’t be running yet, or will run irregularly depending on weather. Accommodation options are reduced and you’ll occasionally feel like the only tourist in the village, which some people love and others find quietly melancholy.

March is genuinely worth it for hikers, cyclists, photographers, slow travellers, couples wanting something calm, and anyone doing the Greek islands seriously rather than recreationally. It’s not the right month for beach holidays, nightlife, or anyone who needs buzzing energy around them to feel like they’re having fun.

**Practical tip:** Don’t rely on a hire car being available if you just show up. Most rental places are open but running skeleton stock. Book your car in advance, because the few vehicles they have disappear fast even in low season.
