# Rovinj in September: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About Enough
September in Rovinj is genuinely one of those travel timing decisions you’ll feel smug about. The summer hordes have thinned out considerably by mid-month, the sea is still warm enough to swim in comfortably, and the town actually starts feeling like itself again rather than a human traffic jam with a pretty backdrop.
At around 19-20°C, the weather sits in that pleasant zone where you’re not melting on the cobblestones but you’re also not reaching for a jacket at lunch. Evenings do cool down noticeably, so pack something with sleeves. The 20mm of rain across the month sounds manageable and mostly it is, but it tends to arrive as sudden afternoon showers rather than drizzle spread politely across days. You might lose an afternoon to one. It’s not the end of the world.
The old town, the harbour, the walk up to Saint Euphemia’s church – all of it is genuinely enjoyable in September because you can actually stop and look at things. July and August turn those narrow streets into slow-moving queues of people eating gelato. September lets you breathe. Restaurants are still fully open, boat trips are still running, and the water visibility for snorkelling around the islands is excellent.
**Who is this month actually for?** Couples, people who like eating dinner without waiting an hour for a table, photographers, anyone who finds peak-season crowds genuinely exhausting. It’s less ideal if you’re travelling with young kids on a school schedule, or if you want buzzing beach bar energy until 2am – that atmosphere has largely packed up by late September.
One practical tip worth knowing: the ferry connections to nearby islands and coastal towns run less frequently from September onwards. Check schedules before you build an itinerary around them, because finding out on the dock that the last boat left an hour ago is a miserable way to spend an afternoon.
Worth visiting in September? Honestly, yes – probably more worth it than August, and that’s not a view the tourism posters will ever tell you.
