Visiting Sorrento in October

Visiting Sorrento in October

# Sorrento in October: The Honest Version

October is genuinely one of the better times to visit Sorrento, though not quite the golden secret some travel blogs make it out to be.

**What it’s actually like**

Early October still feels like summer’s stubborn cousin. Temperatures hover around the low-to-mid 20s Celsius, warm enough for sitting outside with a Aperol Spritz without reaching for a jacket. By late October things shift noticeably – evenings get cool, there’s a certain grey quality to the light some afternoons, and you’ll want a proper layer. Rainfall is genuinely unpredictable. October marks the start of the wetter season, and you can absolutely hit a run of grey, drizzly days. It happens. Pack accordingly rather than hoping for the best.

**Crowds**

Significantly better than August, which honestly isn’t hard. The main corso and the clifftop views get busy on weekends and when cruise ships dock – and they still dock in October. Weekday mornings before about 10am you’ll actually have places almost to yourself, which feels slightly miraculous compared to peak summer.

**What’s open**

Most restaurants, shops and boat trips are still running. Some smaller, family-run places start closing or cutting hours in the second half of October, particularly if they’re beach-adjacent. The ferry connections to Capri and the Amalfi Coast continue but check schedules because they thin out. The Path of the Gods hiking trail is lovely in October and far more manageable in cooler temperatures.

**Is it worth it and for whom**

Honestly, yes – particularly if you’re not chasing guaranteed beach weather and you’d rather walk around without sweating through your shirt. It suits people who actually want to eat in the restaurants rather than queue for them, explore the lemon groves and side streets at a reasonable pace, and not feel like a sardine on the piazza.

**One practical tip**

Book accommodation mid-week and you’ll pay noticeably less than weekend rates, which still inflate during October because enough people have figured out the shoulder season thing.
