# Gozo in February: The Honest Version
February in Gozo is properly quiet, and depending on what you’re after, that’s either the whole point or a reason to rethink your timing.
The weather is mild but genuinely unpredictable. Fourteen degrees sounds reasonable until the wind comes in off the sea, at which point it feels considerably rawer. That 65mm of rain sounds manageable spread across a month, but it tends to arrive in determined, grey bursts rather than polite English drizzle. You’ll have beautiful sunny mornings that make you feel smug about avoiding summer crowds, then a squall rolls in by afternoon and suddenly the Azure Window’s absence feels less tragic because you wouldn’t be standing near the cliffs anyway.
The island is genuinely empty. Restaurants in Victoria and the smaller villages operate reduced hours or close entirely during the week, so you’ll want to check before wandering somewhere specific. The Citadel is open and actually wonderful to explore without the summer crush. Salt pans are still and photogenic. Ggantija temples remain accessible and you’ll practically have them to yourself, which is a genuinely remarkable feeling for a UNESCO site.
Is it worth going? Honestly, yes, but only for a specific type of traveller. If you want long beach days, forget it – the water’s cold and the beaches aren’t the draw. But if you’re someone who likes wandering slowly, eating well, reading in a farmhouse, and experiencing a place without performing tourism at it, February Gozo is quietly wonderful. It suits couples, solo travellers, writers, people recovering from something. It does not suit families with young children expecting entertainment or anyone who needs guaranteed sunshine to feel a holiday is succeeding.
The practical tip worth actually following: hire a car, don’t rely on buses. February schedules are reduced and some routes between villages run infrequently. With a car you can chase the sunny patches when they appear, which makes the unpredictable weather feel like an adventure rather than an inconvenience.
