# Thassos in April: Honest Thoughts

Look, April in Thassos is genuinely hard to call. The weather sits in that awkward shoulder season territory where you might get warm, golden days hitting 18-20°C, or you might get grey skies and rain that feels determined to ruin your mood. Both are entirely possible within the same week. Pack layers and waterproofs and mentally prepare for both versions of the trip, because the island will not make you any promises.

What it actually feels like is quiet. Really quiet. The tourist machine hasn’t fired up yet, so you’re walking through villages like Theologos or Kastro without bumping into anyone, the marble streets are empty, and there’s something genuinely lovely about that if you’re the right kind of traveller. The mountain interior looks spectacular in spring – properly green, wildflowers appearing, waterfalls still running with winter rain. If you want to hike, April is arguably the best month on the island.

The trade-off is that things are closed. Plenty of tavernas, beach bars, and boat hire places simply haven’t opened yet. You won’t be sunbathing at Paradise Beach or Marble Beach in any meaningful way – the water is cold and the facilities are shuttered. Limenas, the main town, has enough functioning restaurants and cafes to keep you comfortable, but don’t expect much beyond that.

Crowds are barely a concept in April. You’re sharing the island with locals and a small trickle of early visitors, mostly walkers and people who specifically sought out the off-season atmosphere. Nobody is getting in your way. Accommodation prices are noticeably lower too.

Is it worth going? If you want hiking, photography, peaceful exploration, and you’re genuinely unbothered by variable weather and limited dining options, then yes, absolutely. If you’re dreaming of beach holidays, cold drinks by turquoise water, and lively evenings, go in July.

**Practical tip:** Rent a car on arrival without assuming in advance – some rental places aren’t operating at full capacity yet, so book ahead online before you travel.
