May is genuinely one of the better times to visit Girona, but let me be straight with you about what that means in practice.

The weather is where things get complicated. May in Girona is famously unpredictable. Everything is open, restaurants are running full menus, and the day-trip scene from Barcelona means weekends are noticeably busier than weekdays.

Is it worth visiting in May? Yes, especially if you’re not obsessed with guaranteed sunshine and you appreciate atmosphere over beach weather. It suits people who want to eat well, walk medieval streets, and visit somewhere that feels like a real city rather than a theme park. Families, couples, and solo travelers with flexible plans all do well here.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation the moment you know your dates, especially if your trip overlaps with Temps de Flors. Good options disappear months out, and the leftover rooms are overpriced.
