# Olympos in March: The Ruins Have the Place to Yourself
Olympos in March is genuinely difficult to predict, and honestly that’s part of the deal. The Turkish Mediterranean coast is technically edging toward spring, but March here can mean bright warm sunshine one day and cold, grey drizzle the next. Temperatures sit somewhere between 10 and 18 degrees Celsius depending on what mood the weather is in. Pack layers you actually mean to use, not just ones you shove to the bottom of your bag.
The ruins are spectacular in March for one very simple reason: almost nobody is there. Olympos is one of those places that gets absolutely swamped in summer, with day-trippers piling through the canyon path and the beach packed tight. In March you might genuinely have entire sections of those ancient Lycian ruins to yourself. Walking through the overgrown site with fig trees pushing through old walls and nobody around feels legitimately atmospheric in a way that July simply cannot offer.
What’s open is the honest question. The beach bars and most of the famous treehouse accommodation options are either shut entirely or running on minimal staff. The village is quiet to the point of feeling slightly abandoned. You’re not coming here for a social scene or a cold Efes on a sun lounger. The ruins themselves are accessible, and the Chimaera flames up on the hillside above are worth an evening walk regardless of season.
Is it worth it? For the right person, genuinely yes. If you’re a hiker, a history person, or just someone who finds crowds exhausting, March Olympos delivers something real. The Lycian Way passes nearby and trail conditions are manageable, though mud is possible after rain. If you’re expecting a beach holiday or a buzzing atmosphere, wait until May.
**One practical tip:** Call ahead to confirm your accommodation is actually open before you travel. Seriously, call. Several guesthouses don’t update their online availability accurately in the shoulder season, and arriving to find locked gates in a quiet valley is a very specific kind of frustrating.
