# Vilamoura in October: The Honest Version

October is genuinely one of the more interesting times to visit Vilamoura, though probably not for the reasons the brochures would tell you.

The summer circus has largely packed up and left. The marina, which spends July and August resembling a floating nightclub, settles back into something that actually feels like a place rather than a performance. You can get a table at a decent restaurant without a reservation, walk along the boardwalk without being shoulder-to-shoulder with sunburned strangers, and hear yourself think.

Weather-wise, October in the Algarve is genuinely unpredictable. You might get two glorious weeks of 24-degree sunshine with calm seas, or you might get a week of grey skies and proper Atlantic rain rolling in off nowhere. Most years lean toward the pleasant side, especially in early October, but pack a layer and don’t build your entire trip around beach time. The sea is actually warmest in September and early October, holding onto summer heat surprisingly well, so swimming is still very much on the table if the sun cooperates.

The marina complex stays pretty active year-round, restaurants are open, and the casino certainly isn’t closing. The golf courses, which are honestly one of the strongest arguments for the whole area, are in excellent condition and considerably less booked out than peak season. If golf is your thing, October might actually be the best month to come.

What does close or scale back is the more obviously tourist-facing stuff – some beach bars, certain boat trip operators, and the general holiday entertainment infrastructure thins out noticeably.

Is it worth visiting? If you want guaranteed beach holiday sunshine, roll the dice with clear eyes. If you want a relaxed, unhurried version of a genuinely attractive marina town with good food, accessible golf, and half the chaos, October works really well. Couples, older visitors, and golfers will probably love it. Families with young kids chasing a classic beach week might find it slightly hit-or-miss.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation midweek. Prices drop noticeably compared to weekends, even in shoulder season.
