# Antalya in May: Pretty Much the Sweet Spot

If someone asked me to design the ideal month to visit Antalya, I’d probably land pretty close to May. Not because it’s perfect — nothing is — but because it hits a genuinely good balance that most other months can’t quite manage.

The weather sits around 25°C, which sounds like a brochure stat but actually feels exactly right in practice. You can walk the old city walls in the afternoon without wanting to die, swim in the sea without that initial gasp of cold that ruins the first thirty seconds, and eat dinner outside without needing a jacket halfway through your meal. The Mediterranean is warming up properly by now, hovering around 22°C in the water. Not bathwater, but absolutely swimmable.

The 58mm of rain sounds more alarming than it is. You’re not looking at a wet month in any meaningful sense — more like a handful of short, sharp afternoon showers that clear quickly. Pack a light layer, accept you might get briefly rained on once, move on.

Crowds are building but haven’t exploded yet. Peak summer — particularly July and August — turns the old town and beaches into something resembling a theme park queuing system. May still has space. Restaurants aren’t fully slammed, you can actually see Hadrian’s Gate without forty people photographing it simultaneously, and hotel prices haven’t reached their summer ceiling. Everything is open, festivals are happening, boat trips are running.

Who is this month genuinely best for? Hikers, because the Lycian Way conditions are excellent. History enthusiasts, because you can actually look at things comfortably. Families with younger children who can’t travel in school holidays. Anyone who prioritizes experience over pure sun-and-sand maximalism.

If you’re chasing guaranteed wall-to-wall sunshine and a proper beach holiday energy, August delivers that more reliably, heat exhaustion and all.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation now rather than assuming May availability is easy. The “shoulder season” label misleads people. It fills up faster than you’d expect.
