Visiting Dahab in June
# Dahab in June: Hot, Quiet, and Honestly Pretty Good
June is when Dahab starts thinning out, and whether that appeals to you depends entirely on what you’re after.
The heat is real. Temperatures sit somewhere between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius through most of the day, and the desert surrounding the town doesn’t exactly help. Mornings are manageable, but by midday you’ll be retreating to shade or sliding into the water. Rainfall is essentially nonexistent – this is the Sinai desert, so you’re not packing an umbrella. The Red Sea itself is the saving grace here, hovering around 26 to 27 degrees and so clear it almost feels unfair.
The crowd situation is noticeably different from peak months like March or November. European tourists have mostly gone home, school holidays haven’t fully kicked in yet for families, and you’re left with a more relaxed mix of serious divers, budget long-termers, and travelers who’ve done their homework. The Blue Hole and Canyon are still accessible and popular with divers, but you won’t be queuing on the beach. Snorkelers get genuinely good conditions.
Most restaurants and guesthouses along the Mashraba strip stay open year-round – Dahab’s tourism infrastructure is modest enough that operators can’t afford to close seasonally. You might find a few smaller spots shut for renovation or just because the owner fancied a break, but you won’t be struggling to find food or accommodation.
Is it worth it? If you dive, absolutely yes. The visibility is excellent and the sites feel yours in a way they don’t in cooler months. If you’re heat-sensitive or planning lots of overland hiking around Sinai, June is punishing and you should come back in autumn. Budget travelers also benefit because prices soften noticeably when demand drops.
**One practical tip:** Book accommodation with air conditioning confirmed in writing, not just listed as an amenity. Ceiling fans are sometimes the reality, and at 38 degrees at midnight, that distinction matters considerably more than you’d expect.
