# Ksamil in May: The Sweet Spot Before the Madness

If you’ve been eyeing Ksamil for a while, May might honestly be the best time to actually go rather than just talk about going.

The weather sits around 22°C, which sounds modest until you’re standing on that ridiculous turquoise water and realising you don’t need to fight through a wall of sunburned tourists to see it. It’s warm enough to swim if you’re not precious about it – the sea is still refreshingly cool rather than the bath temperature it reaches in August, but plenty of people are in the water by mid-May. You’ll get maybe 20mm of rain across the month, usually short afternoon showers rather than anything that ruins a full day. Pack a light layer and you’re sorted.

The crowds situation is genuinely different from peak season. The Albanian Riviera in July and August is chaotic in a way the Instagram photos never quite capture – packed beaches, queues for everything, prices that have crept up considerably. In May you can actually walk along the shore, pick a spot, and stay there. The small islands just offshore are reachable without negotiating a scrum of inflatables.

Most restaurants and beach bars are open by mid-May, though some spots don’t fully fire up until the very end of the month. A handful of the flashier beach clubs might still be doing soft openings with limited menus. The village itself functions normally – the bakeries, the little shops, the evening stroll along the waterfront. You won’t feel like you’ve arrived somewhere half-asleep.

Is it worth it? For couples, solo travellers, or anyone who finds crowds genuinely exhausting rather than just mildly annoying – absolutely yes. Families with young children who need calm, shallow water will love it. If you need thumping beach bars running until dawn, wait until July.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation early anyway. May isn’t August but Ksamil is small, good places are limited, and the secret has been thoroughly out for a few years now.
