# Olbia in July: What You’re Actually Getting Into

Let’s be straight with you: July in Olbia means heat. Proper, heavy, Mediterranean heat that sits on you from about 10am onwards and doesn’t really apologize. You’re looking at temperatures regularly pushing 30-35°C, sometimes nudging higher, with very little rain to break things up. July is one of the driest months in Sardinia, so don’t pack an umbrella expecting relief. The humidity isn’t as brutal as somewhere like Rome, but the sun has serious intent.

Here’s the thing about Olbia specifically though. Most people treat it as a transit point for the Costa Smeralda and the fancy northern beaches, and honestly, a lot of the July crowds blow straight through. Porto Cervo and Cannigione get the Instagram hordes and the superyacht crowd. Olbia itself is busy but not suffocating. The old town is walkable, the local restaurants are open and doing good business, and you’ll find the place feels like an actual functioning Sardinian city rather than a theme park.

What’s open? Everything. July is peak season, so museums, boat tours, restaurants, beach clubs nearby at Pittulongu and Porto Istana – all running at full capacity. You won’t find anything closed for local holidays.

Is it worth visiting then? Depends entirely on who you are. If you want beaches, warm sea and long evenings eating outside, absolutely yes. The water is gorgeous and genuinely warm. If you hate sweating through your shirt before noon or you’re planning serious sightseeing on foot through the middle of the day, you’ll suffer more than you’ll enjoy. Families with kids who want beach time will have a brilliant time. Solo travellers after nightlife and seafood will do well too.

**One practical tip:** Don’t underestimate how fierce the midday sun feels when you’re on exposed white stone near the harbour. Sunscreen factor 50, a proper hat, and make peace with doing absolutely nothing between 1pm and 4pm. That’s not laziness – that’s just local wisdom.
