# Ksamil in April: Honest Thoughts

April in Ksamil sits in that interesting middle ground where the place hasn’t fully woken up yet but you can absolutely see what it’s going to become in about eight weeks. That tension is either really appealing or mildly frustrating, depending on what you’re after.

**The reality of the weather**

18 degrees sounds lovely on paper, and often it genuinely is. You’ll get bright, clear days where the water looks almost offensively turquoise and you’ll understand immediately why people lose their minds over this place in summer. But April also delivers moody overcast stretches and that 30mm of rain has to land somewhere, usually in concentrated bursts rather than gentle drizzle. Pack a layer you don’t mind getting wet. Don’t pack only summer clothes.

**Crowds, or the lack of them**

This is honestly the most compelling argument for April. The Albanian Riviera in July and August is genuinely hectic now – word got out, prices climbed, and the small islands just offshore get genuinely packed. In April you can walk to those little beaches and have them almost to yourself. That’s not a small thing.

**What’s actually open**

Patchy, truthfully. Some restaurants are still shuttered, a handful of beach bars are testing the water (literally), and accommodation options are fewer than peak season. You won’t starve and you’ll find a bed, but don’t expect everything firing on all cylinders. The town itself feels slightly sleepy.

**Who should go in April**

Photographers, hikers doing the coastal paths, couples who want peaceful rather than buzzing, anyone visiting Butrint ruins nearby without a tour group in their eyeline. It works beautifully for that crowd.

**Who might be disappointed**

Anyone primarily coming for beach and swimming culture. The water temperature hovers around 16 degrees. People do swim. Those people are built differently.

**One practical tip**

Call ahead to your restaurant shortlist. Seriously. Don’t assume anything listed online is actually open mid-April. A quick message saves a genuinely deflating walk to a locked door at dinnertime.
